I have finally learned my lesson on procrastination.
Oh, I was warned. I had only felt the stress of being too-late on an assignment a couple days ago. Yet today, there I was optimistically thinking I had this in the bag.
Let's be honest, usually I do.
But usually, i'm writing in the silence of the night with only my computer screen lighting my way.
I had plenty of time beforehand to finish this paper, but I didn't think it would be too hard. And it actually wouldn't have been.... if I had looked at the assignment directions thoroughly.
You see partially through my paper writing, I noticed a critical part of the assignment I had overlooked, time and time again. Suddenly I needed new data (data I had to do by hand because I forgot how to do it on the computer program). Suddenly I needed to think of a new plausible theory (my old one didn't include the new data). Suddenly I needed to write a whole paper, including research, in 5 hours!
I finished alright, but you better believe there were errors. I even forgot to include a reference on my references list. Who does that?
I'll tell you who. Plagiarizers. And I am not a plagiarizer.
Oh well, it's part of the lesson I guess.
Consider it learned. Next time, i'm starting my paper as soon as I get the data, and i'm actually going to read the directions all the way through. At least I noticed the critical part. At least I turned it in. Stressful day, but I know better now. I hope no one ever has to go through what I did, though i'm sure somewhere out there, there's someone putting off a paper.

Agh! I've had this happen to me before and it is absolutely one of the worst feelings ever! Sorry you had to go through it too. :(
ReplyDeleteIt definitely was a lesson that was needed. Though it is the worst, to stop procrastination I feel like this is one of the only was to realize the problems it can cause.
