LatiGringa
Soy latÃ-gringa. Or in other words, I am too Latina to be White and too White to be Latina. It's exactly like that one scene in the movie about Selina.
This week I've had the wonderful blessing to go to Paraguay, the birth-place of half my DNA. I haven't been here for years. The last time I was here I was five and the most impactful moments on my limited memory consists of a lemur attack, throwing up, giant ants, a banana tree, and visiting my great-grandma. Needless to say, I didn't remember too much when I got here.
Since coming home from Peru, I thought Paraguay would be similar. Boy was I disillusioned. Totally different way of life, different everything! They even speak using 'vos'.
That being said, I feel at home here. Weird, right? I've spent 4 days here and yet 10 years is how long I feel like I've been here.
My blood is partially here, who I am is partially here. Most importantly family is here. And that probably is what makes me feel like I belong.
I've never been interested in being 'multi-cultural', I've never embraced my latina-ness, but now I want to more.
I wonder if it would be the same going to the DR..
Con Amor,
Carolina
