I Swallowed My Gum!

Today, nearing the end of sacrament meeting, the little boy in front of me turned around, smiled at me and then said, "I swallowed my gum," in the most prideful and cheery sing-song voice.

Children are so innocent. They exude happiness. Even after the kicking and screaming and tantrums, they are precious.

For the past month, or so, I have been serving my ward in the nursery as a helper. Basically, for two of the three hour block that is church, I am with 18 month and 2ish year olds. We play, we read, we sing, we have a lesson, we have snacks and we color. At first, I was a little disappointed that I wouldn't be able to participate in Relief Society, Sunday School, or the singles ward. But now, looking back on the things I've learned in Nursery, I couldn't be more grateful for my calling. I get to serve some of the most innocent people in the church, surrounded by pure love.

Today, during snack time, as I watched one little boy feed another his animal crackers I realized how blessed I am to be in the nursery, even if it is only for a little while longer. When I go back to school and the singles wards of Provo, it will probably be a long time until I am privileged to be around nursery kids again.

No church assignment is unimportant.

Con amor,
Carolina
