What I've come to Know
A couple nights ago, I found this video on a Facebook page for sister missionaries. If all you do is watch the video and not read the rest of my post, I don't care. This video is powerful, and even though the beginning and the end talk about the priesthood, I think someone without the priesthood can find many ways to apply this to their life; which, I obviously don't have the priesthood so i'm speaking from experience.
One of the biggest aspects of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Without the atonement, we would all be more than lost; we would be alone. As the atonement is a huge part of the gospel, it will play a big role in the lessons I teach as a missionary. And though I've had things to repent of I've never sought to truly understand the power of the atonement.
This week, as i've prayed to understand it better, my testimony of the atonement has been strengthened. I know all of our sins can be washed away because the Savior has provided the way to do so. He has paid for every sin so we don't have to. When we ignore a prompting to repent because we don't think it's a big deal we are only hurting our own spirit. In the end, it's up to us to use the atonement. The spirit is persistent and if we really want to be obedient, grow closer to the Savior, and receive blessings of the spirit we won't be able to ignore the promptings to repent. As silly and little as things may seem it is better to take care of them. To know you are worthy of the companionship of the Holy Ghost is a huge comfort. I know I want to return to my Heavenly Father, and to do so I know I will need to be clean and worthy.
Do not be discouraged and don't feel like you can't change or you can't be comforted, because you can. We were not sent here to fail and unless you murder someone, no sin is too grave to overcome in this life. Sometimes it isn't easy to admit that you've done something wrong, but blessings will come to those who heed the prompting to repent.
There is a way back and it will bring happiness.
With love,
Carolina
